The Willis G. Vanderburg Photographs consist of 61 black-and-white photographs and 129 color slides taken by Vanderburg while a war correspondent in Alaska and northwestern Canada in 1943. The photographs document construction of the CANOL pipeline and the Alaska Highway, as well as travel along the Richardson Highway from Valdez to Gulkana, Alaska, with a side trip to Chitina. The collection also includes a small amount of biographical information on Willis Vanderburg.

Willis Gerrit Vanderburg (1902-1983) was a newspaper publisher in Iowa. He traveled to Alaska, the Yukon, and the Northwest Territories in 1943 as a war correspondent and photographer under the supervision of the Northwest Service Command.
